Install-and-forget WIFI to connect to Sarawak’s interior?

Many crazy ideas had been proposed by outsiders to connect Sarawak’s interior to the outside world. Latest is the `wifi village’ idea from the government. Previously there was a `philantropic’ idea to donate mobile phones to Sarawakians. However the better ideas seems to be SW radios.  WiFi village project turns into a farce	3Share

KUCHING – The people of Nanga Berkiok at Merurun, Julau cannot be blamed if they thought that the government’s ‘Kampung WiFi’ project recently implemented at Rumah Guntol was a mere publicity stunt.  A satellite dish which was installed in the longhouse last Sept 17 broke down less than a week later.

More pressures on Lawas and Limbang land!

LAWAS – Brunei has offered to purchase power to be generated by the proposed hydroelectric plants to be set up in Limbang and Lawas, Sarawak. Second Minister of Planning and Management Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said while the actual starting  date for the projects have yet to be fixed, Brunei had already showed keen interest in the power plants. “We already have an agreement with Brunei to supply 100MW and they have agreed to upgrade their transmission lines. In fact they (Brunei) want us to speed up the (implementation of the) project,” he told reporters last night after launching the Malaysian Islamic Welfare Organisation  Lawas Branch’s family night.
