Was there any political motivation behind Taib the politicina’s marriage with a Syrian born women Ragad Waleed Al-kurdi, when it happen, otherwise, quite oddly ahead of an imminent state election? The effect, for a start, is almost everyone was caught unprepared for it! Few found an agle to frame it-where mostly prefer to leave it as a personal affair. But the unfathomable politics seems to be lurking in the back of people’s suspicius mind. The political tempo was halted suddenly-giving Taib the politician some breathing space from the unending revelation of corruption!

Actually the re-delineation exercise is unlikely for the rest of Malaysia for 2 reasons: 1. The lack of 2/3 majority in Parliament by BN means that they cannot gain approval for the new borders unless they act impartially in the exercise-which is unlikely for them to do judging from EC’s past records; 2. the time required for such an exercise means that they cannot possibly complete it ahead of the imminent general elections; So the EC is more likely to look into changing the electoral laws to achieve the same purpose. Don’t ask what purpose that is.

Latest voters figures from Parliament confirm yet again that Sarawakians are the lowest represented in Malaysian states in terms of electoral democracy. To get a true picture than this average state wide calculations: more than half of the interior citizens are voiceless-so they cannot even start to object to this state of voicelessness!!!!

The Sarawak state elections will be the 2nd time when the EC will use hologram stickers to secure the ballot boxes to dispel criticisms that the ballot boxes could be swapped mid-way through any transportation. While it is a positive move it is by no means all it takes to restore full public confidence on the electoral administration by the EC-which has been criticised for its partiality and lack of effectiveness for decades. May be other than looking at the hardware for electoral management the EC should reflect on the softwares ie the EC’s itself as a suitable materail to run the elections in free and fair basis that meet not just international standards but also the local school club elections!
EC says to use holograms on Tenang ballot boxes

The EC claim that proxy votes are allowed in corporate setting and in a Toronto municipal elections-thus it is justifiable in Malaysia. What the EC chief refused to say is: how do the EC’s integrity and impartiality compared to the practices in the corporate sector and Toronto municipal-or even a school election! When the election administration here is so bad that no observer had fully approved it the attempt to utilise proxy voting in Malaysia will certainly attract huge reservation! The EC should make use of the coming opportunity to overhaul the electoral system to put right some glaring weaknesses of the current electoral system rather than be so `forward looking’ to try some new tricks which are suspected of extending the unfair electoral system in the country! Proxy votes which remove the voting execution from the secured polling station expose the voters to undue influences that also threaten the secrecy of the vote!
SPR kaji undi proksi, 30 pindaan ditimbang sebelum PRU-13
The slowness of the JPN to register Sarawakians without IC is not entirely due to transport problems eg even the number of such unregistered citizens-easily estimated from those rejected applicants, cannot be accurately supplied by the JPN! Also the rate of on-going registrations are made state secrets unaccessible by the public. Then the JPN deiced that they will not divulge the reasons for rejecting applications-creating a fertile ground for corruption! So after some long years the problems still persist. So how long more should people put up with such lack of transparency that apparently cover up its inefficiencies? Adding helicopters to its service seems to be a plausible to speed up its travel to the interior-but the `interior’ of the JPN bureacracy perhaps need more than helicopters to navigate! The higher speed of the JPN in Sabah to give over a million of citizens documents to clear cases of foreigners highlight that there are more than what meet the eyes when it come to registration of undocumented local citizens. Perhaps the `helicopter’ here is taken to hold a different meaning which require higher charges from the applicants?????
JPN plans to use choppers to reach remote areas
Posted on January 14, 2011, Friday
KUCHING: The National Registration Department (JPN) has planned to acquire the service of helicopters as part of its efforts to intensify its outreach programme to help the people in the remote parts of the state obtain their personal documents.
It is learned that radio Free Sarawak has gone off-air on Jan 15th-but has since come back on the following day. Hope the audiences will continue to tune in for the independent broadcasts. reception reports from all parts of Sarawak are welcome to inform the broadcasters if the new frequencies have improved the reception especially in the vast interior of Sarawak where it is a desert of information.
So the Johor Education department has tried -though unsuccessfully, to transfer the husband, a teacher, of the PAS candidate, also a teacher, on account that the husband `failed to control his wife’ to be the PAS supporter. The head of the Johor Education department has been notorious for urging Johor teachers to vote for BN-a complaint by PAS where the EC head Tan Sri Abdul Aziz had spoken up against. Since the Johor Education department remain recalcitrant and tried to abuse its power to play politics what do the EC chief propose to do this this affront to his office as well as the separation of power defended by the EC’s statement? Failure to take action will give green light to more government departments to take hints from the event to step up the blatancy of their politicking ventures! If the civil servants-especially at the head level, is not stopped in time it will surely spread to other states like Sarawak where a state election is pending within half a year.
