Federal Court grant Bakun & Tatau natives leave to challenge grabbing of NCR lands through PL

Federal Court speaks!

The Bakun natives brought up 5-6 issues to the Federal Court for review-but only 1 was granted this morning ie the challenge to the Provisional Lease which has been used rampantly in the last decade to grab natives’ lands. This is a round 1 victory in a longer battle to reclaim natives’ lands in Sarawak. Report from Free malaysia Today & SAM:

PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court today set a momentous precedent when it granted leave to lawyers to challenge the Sarawak state government’s aquisition of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land.

More international community speak out against Taib’s logging destruction

Anti-Taib protest scene in London-more to come!

The 1st in a series of demonstrations against the destruction from Taib Mahmud’s logging policies kicked off in London yesterday at Taib’s prime property holding overseas. Malaysians and British joined voices to criticise the corruption and destructive logging activities in Sarawak. More protests are planned for other parts of Europe and US. More report, photos and video of the demo are here. Last year there was also a demo against Taib when he visited the Said Business School in London.
