50% of Natives do not register. Turnout is only 60%.
This is the NORM for most third world countries.
Some even less.
I was in Brazil & Mexico and talked to the Natives. They are more concern about bread & butter issues. If they have problems they go to their Chiefs (Ketua Kampong)
I just came back from Africa. In Malawi, if you want to buy land, you must get permission from the Chief of the tribe & if he agrees, he will just draw lines with a stick on the ground and you pay the Chief the amount he wants. Then you get the Chief’s certificate to get it endorsed by the govt land office. If you upset the Chief, he can drive you off the land !!!
In third world countries where people are poor & uneducated and unexposed, they don’t register as voters.
To them, the bread & butter issues are more important
They do not know how to fill the forms because they are uneducated and cannot read and write !!!
Even as an educated man I cannot fill some forms completely and accurately in Malaysia.
BUT I must say the services of Immigration, Police, IRD etc in Malaysia have improved alot. They are courteous efficient and people friendly. # # #
You can renew your passport in 1 hour !!!
It is important for NGOs, political parties, Election Commision to go out to help them to register for them as voters. What has EC been doing ???
The main way to develop a nation is to give good education to the people. When people are educated, they understand things better. They know their rights. They will take advantages of services provided.
How many of you want to work in the jungle to educate the Natives ??????
The govt gives Dato to many people who don’t contribute much to society. It is time the govt give Dato ship to teachers, doctors & others working in the outback regions of Malaysia esp Sarawak & Sabah. 70% of Natives live in poverty & miseries. There is no water and Electricity in Serian. So how to build schools & educate them ???
I had worked in Sabah in 1970s and been to the inland and islands.
But you are never appreciated by the govt.
Those with CONNECTIONS get better postings.
Ask Khairy Jamaluddin & Mukhris Mahathir to go and work with the Orang Asli in these areas for 5 years, if they want to serve.
Talking is cheap.
