Sarawak’s `spring’ arrives: Bersih t-shirt become much saught after collector’s item!

Quite a number of friends called to beg for a Bersih T-shirt-which ran out of stock even before the police raided the Bersih office to take away some (prebooked?) 300 Bersih T-shirts. But why the xanthophobia (fear of yellow eg pus!)? There are many adorable yellows around eg the royalty like to clad in yellow; many corporates colours are yellow eg Maybank, Digi etc. Or Taib is seeing enemy in every yellow colour???? He will be the first fatality of xantophobia in the world if he goes on like this for a few more days as Sarawakians/Kuching-kias all wear yellow one way or another from today onwards…the beginning of a Sarawak Spring????

Emeric Teo was having a drink at a Starbucks outlet in Kuching when some 30 policemen confronted him.

PETALING JAYA: A week has passed since the Bersih 2.0 rally but the arrests continue. Emeric Teo, a lawyer, was picked up in Kuching this morning for wearing a yellow Bersih 2.0 T-shirt in public.

Sarawak’s 1st Post-Bersih arrest betrayed Taib’s yellow jittery!

A young lawyer Emeric Teo is arrested today in Kuching at See Chee How's yellow walkabout at Spring, Kuching. They were drinking coffee at Starbuck when the overwhelming police made the arrest. Almost 50 persons condemn the arrest immediately in Facebook! Not bad to have a few more to make Sarawakians more angry! Lawyers are assisting Emeric at police station at time of reporting.

What is so wrong and so threatening when righteous Malays, Chinese and Dayaks from all walks of life wanted to show their love and patriotism for Sarawak by marching together to foster greater unity,harmony and telling their elected servants to be good, caring and corrupt free servants. The Masters have every right to monitor the characters and performance of those whom they had chosen to serve them. If the rakyat can give you that right to govern we can also take back that right after reviewing your performance and characters.

Bersih to debate UMNO Youth?

The debate was suggested by UMNO Youth led by its chief who is not a minister compared to all previous UMNO Youth Chief, and also compared to his deputy who is a minister. How far can this debate raise profile of the issue of electoral mal-administrations is uncertain as the UMNO Youth is more motivated by politics to impress its boss than really improve electoral administration that will certainly hurt its boss’ chances in elections! Refocusing on the mechanics of election administrations may be needed if and when there is real will to push forward the agenda for free and fair elections by both sides of the political fence. Meanwhile there is a dire need for civil society to prepare the mental ground work.

How much do Pakatan value free and fair elections?

There haas been much talk by BN on how Pakatan Rakyat make use of Bersih rally for its own electoral purpose. This can be put in its place since the political bias is obvious. Now let’s see what the Buku Jingga -the Pakatan’s common policy platform says about free and fair elections. I checked through the entire document the only reference that remotely mention it is these precious line:

1. Reform the main national institutions of government, such as the Election Commission, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the Attorney General’s Chambers and the Malaysian Royal Police Force to introduce transparency and restore accountability of government.
