PAS Youth gives EC damning evidences of phantom voters

PAS Youth today has stepped forward with damning evidences of irregularities in the Election Commission’s voter database, and urged the body to improve its voters registration system (e-PPST) which is linked to the NRD’s Agency Link-Up System (ALIS).

Malaysia has been witnessing numerous groups selling their moderately extreme stands in recent years-but how about someone offering something extremely moderate for a change? Amanah is a new NGO created by Tengku Razaleigh to try to capture the grounds left out by the moderate extremist groups like Perkasa, Aman etc. Even the PM Najib claim to interest himself in a global movement of the moderates. Are we seeing an ideological/paradigm switch to the center?

The figures of youth votes are impressive-they make up a big chunk of current and future electoral rolls. Yet the registration rate is low and the voting rate among youth are also remarkably low-a global trend. Eating into the voting rate is their mobility. The unavailability of the postal vote on demand means that may be up to 1mil youthful voters may be deprived of their voting rights due to their absence from the registered address. Putting all this together it may not appear that the youth vote may count for much-unless there are something to mtivate them to utilise their voting power at the ir disposal!

So before the EC think that involving civil society members as Election Commissioners is encroaching into its role there are more drastic suggestion coming from ex-UMNO Minister Abdul Kadir! He suggested that Opposition party members should be brought in to balance the EC’s supposedly unbalance set-up! Slowly but surely the EC has become the bull eye of a darting campaign post- Bersih.
