While the government is flirting with the idea of including NGO( and even Opposition members by an UMNO ex-minister) in the Election Commission who are our present Election Commissioners before they are appointed? Have they the requisite qualifications and training to take up the most important post? The previous post of the current Election Commissioners -given below, does not seems to inspire confidence. You can see a number of them are from the Home Ministry before-Abdul Aziz, Wan Ahmad, and the policeman Christopher Wan. Other than these there is 1 in charge of printing-Jamdin Buyong, another in charge of rural welfare/Kemas-Mohd Ramji Alli, 1 state secretary -Hj Zainal Abidin, and another one, Dr P Manogran, from Ministry of Human Resource. Why they can’t allow the better talents like ex-judges, Bar Council leaders, distinguished lawyers, law academics, civil society leaders-or even a football referee has better experiences in running a competition on a level playing field!

Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof was the Permanent Secretary in Home Ministry in the UMNO government.
Is he a member of UMNO or Perkasa ???
Perkasa is an appendage for radical UMNO members plus outsiders.
Star reported a top Election Commission is a member of Perkasa together with former Deputy IGP Shamsuri Arshad.
Abdul Aziz must have the mentality of Malaysian Home Ministry or else he would not hold such a high post.
Abdul Aziz must be an obedient civil servant who will do what UMNO govt instruct him to do.

The hallmarks of a good Election Commission is Independence & Impartiality.
The basic requirements of a credible Election is Fairness.
Abdul Aziz thinks & believes Elections in Malaysia are fair. Maybe he got a skewed mind.

If he is really interested in a Fair & Free Election, he should proactive and called Bersih instead of waiting for a request from them.

Unfair delineation of seats like mal-apportion & gerrymandering are done in such a way that UMNO-led BN will win majority of the seats and hold on to power. Examples are given below.
Election Commission (EC) must be Independent & non-partisan & answerable to Parliament.
Don’t be like Petronas (cash rich + RM50 billion annual income) which is only answerable to Prime Minister and NOT Parliament or people because of the PDA passed by UMNO.
If you are so honest & clean, what is there to hide?

Election Rules/Laws were enacted by UMNO
EC cannot say it is following the EC Rules because they are not fair in the first place.
These Rules were made by UMNO government.
You cannot be playing the game and setting the Rules.
EC is the Referee of the Election and EC must be fair.
EC must be made up of men who know about fairness & justice & know the basics of of empiring a game.
Reputed, honest, fair, non-paritisan Judges, football referees, Tennis Empires etc are suitable people to be in EC.
Civil society, NGOs, Mathematicians, Statisticians, Analysts etc must also be part of EC.
Listen to EC Deputy Chairman’s speeches in Malaysiakini. It is obvious that EC’s hands are tied & has no power.
EC is not independent. EC is just a Management Body which receives instructions from UMNO party.
EC has to beg UMNO government to allow nation’s media to be accessible to all.
The media belongs to the Nation & People and not UMNO government.
Media must be free so that people have access to all infomation.

It is sad that I learn that a top EC official and ex Deputy IGP Shamsuri Arshad are members of Perkasa led by Ibrahim Ali.

Mahathir apparently instructed the Election Commission to do unfair delineation in Sabah after he promised revenge when Pairin supported Razaleigh and Semangat 46.
In Sabah in 1999, Election Commission re-delineated constituencies to increase Muslim seats from 18 to 24 seats; reduce Christian majority seats from 18 to 12 and reduce Chinese majority seats from 7 to 4. (STAR)
As a result N1 got 7650 voters and N13 got 25976.
This a form of CHEATING. This is discrimination against other religions, race & basic human rights.
In Sarawak, elections are also unfair.
Melanau (smallest group with less than 10% of population) has 27 Malay Melanau majority seats (doubled that of Chinese of 13 seats).
Iban (the biggest group about 55% of population) has 21 Iban majority seats, less than minority Melanau.
Chinese (2nd biggest group constitute 30% of population) has 13 Chinese majority seats
Bidayuh has 6 Bidayuh majority seats. Orang Hlu has 4 Orang Ulu majority seats.
N10 Pending (Chinese majority) has 29488 voters. N37 (Malay Melanau majority) has 7305 voters
This means N10 has 4 times the number of voters than N37
1 Malay Melanau vote = 4 Chinese voters This is ridiculous and a form of cheating !!!
BN (PBB 35, PRS 8, SUPP 6, SPDP 6) won 55 seats.BN got 54.5% of votes & got 77% of seats.
Opposition (DAP 12, PKR 3, Independent 1) won 16 seats. Opposition got 45.5% of votes and won 23% of seats.
For an election to have legitimacy, it has to be Fair, Free and Credible.
