TR Sandah won a court case but lost the Tuai Rumah's title-all refelcting an unfair state government!
Tr. Sandah leads his villagers defencding their forests in Ulu Machan against a logging company. They won a suit sometime in July-but that was the reason for him being sacked by the sarawak state government. What this means is that if you are a government appointed and paid tuai rumah you lost your rights to defense your own people, let alone make your own political choice! Such is the regime in Sarawak that we see today and the last 30 years! A video on the defense of the Ulu Machan forest is here. Video maker: Niloh Ason of TV Sarawak Bebas.

SARAWAK COMMUNAL DEMOCRACY & LIFESTYLE DESTROYED in “MALAYSIA”
Our Sarawak native democratic life style has been deliberately destroyed by the new Malayan colonial rulers so as to control the people’s traditional democratic right to determine their own local affairs AND to reinforced UMNO colonial domination.
This is seen in context of what has happened to us in the past 48 years which covered the period of our people’s armed resistance against UMNO colonial annexation and rule.
As a move to weaken the people’s power to control their own affairs the free election of village heads was abolished and replaced by colonial government (represented by the puppet PBB BN government appointees).
Coupled with this has been the PBB BN legislated abrogation of native land rights and destruction of the native communal co-operative economic system.
This has was done by the destruction of long house communities brought on by the PBB BN government policies in land grabs and dispossession of the people from their land.
There are those who blindly argue that this is part of economic development and modernization coming with “independence in Malaysia”. If so it is an inhumane policy which leaves the majority of Dayaks even more poor and destitute than before 1963.
But they do not associate this so-called economic development with the reduction of Sarawak (and Sabah) as the poorest “Malaysian states” by the massive organised seizures plunder and rape of native timber lands and dam buildings and theft of our oil resources.
Sarawak and Sabah oil contributed to the $90 Billion dollars profit just announced by Petronas. $30 billion in tax will be paid to Kuala Lumpur and UMNO pockets.) Where does the balance $60 billion go? Coincidentally, the Petronas boss is one of the richest man in the world.
The $90 billion will make each and every Sarawakian and Sabahan a billionaire 18 times over (assuming that the total population in these 2 colonies is 5 million)
Thus “independence in Malaysia” was just a dressed up re-colonization of Sarawak (and Sabah).
Over 48 years the stripping timber has unjustly enriched and created a tiny class of PBB BN and Chinese tycoons cronies who have re-invented themselves as major multinational companies with their wealth “parked” overseas.
The deprivation of our native rights and national wealth is part of the denial of our freedom and independence.
If we have our own independence and self-determination we could do a lot with the wealth for our nation and people’s benefit.
For the same reasons Sabahans are now serious asking the big question: “What is the value of being in Malaysia?”
We in Sarawak have to wake up and ask the same questions too.
