Another arrest by Police due to Land Dispute with Oil Palm Plantation – Liam Anak Rengga and four others were arrested by police at his farm in Ulu Sungai Seplai, Senga, Bintulu around 5.30pm on 17th December, 2010. They have been remanded for 4 days at the Police Lock-up at Batu Satu Central Police Station, Bintulu. They are held to facilitate police investigation over a report lodged by an agent of a palm oil plantation company operating on NCR land of Rumah Kilat Sungai Senga, Sebauh(End of report)
Previously the following land disputes had occurred in quick succession:
* October: blockade in Sebangan against loggers, resulted in 7 arrests;
* October: protest and police reports against land encroachment in Pulau Lebaan, Daro, Sibu, against an oil palm plantation
May be there are more which the weak media network here had not detected in the vast interior of Sarawak. Added together this can be a huge movement which can make significant dent on the `fixed deposit’ of the ruling parties who align themselves and collaborate with the land grabbers-be it oil palm plantation, loggers or gas pipelines installer. In all cases the police came to the support of the land grabbers, with the state and federal government watching in the background.
