Election Commission sets Feb 26 as nomination day for the Merlimau state assembly constituency in Malacca.

The Election Commission (EC) has set March 6 as polling day for the Merlimau by-election, a state constituency in Malacca.

The seat fell vacant following the death of state assemblyperson Mohamad Hidhir Abu Hasan, who suffered from a second heart attack and was placed on life-support system on Jan 20.

His death triggered the country’s 15th by-election since the March 2008 general election. Mohamad Hidhir was 54.(End of report)

Sarawak state elections will make news not just from the `players’/parties, but also from the `referees’/EC: The EC was promised Rm30mil by the EC Putrajaya chief just weeks ago-but suddenly the budget shot up 50% to Rm45mil! What will the EC Sarawak use the extra budget for-just like what did the EC Putrajaya used the 100% hike in their `fee’ in administer by-elections from Hulu Selangor onwards? Previously EC administer a by-election at about half a mil each-and the fee went up to Rm1mil from Hulu Selangor. But the question on how they spent the money was never explained. Will the current budget for Sarawak state election make any difference?

What could possibly justify a RM15 million increase in allocations for the 10th Sarawak election? And where would the additional RM15 million, which incidentally wasn’t there six months ago, be channelled?

Rakyat Belaga terpaksa menunggu selama 21 tahun dan melalui 3 Perdana Menteri untuk melihat tersempurnanya impian membina jalan sejauh 37 km (Jalan Belaga-Mejawah). Menurut surat khabat lama “The People Mirror” projek membina jalan Belaga-Mejawah bernilai RM14.3 juta dan jalan Belaga-Bukit Jayong bernilai RM 8.5 juta telah diluluskan (s66/10) oleh Kementerian Pembangunan Infrastruktur pada tahun 1990.
