This morning witness the 2nd outing by PKR women to protest the conditional release of the 5000 Malay bibles and to present the 2nd batch of evidences on state government sponsored land grabs in Sarawak. There were still more police than the protestors this time-but there was also a visible swelling of the crowd on the part of the protestors this time around. Should the trend continue the protest may break the taboo against protest in Sarawak soon and allow more public discontent to be expressed through peaceful gatherings.
The crowd was more impressive taking into consideration of the drizzling all through the protest. The crowd was forced to squeeze under the roof of the old court house where the protest took place. The police sent in FRUs with tear-gas launchers and 2 big police truck to prepare for mass arrests. Fortunately the police’s offer of 3 min talk by the PKR -which turned into 3 min for each speaker, satisfied the organiser who agreed to dispersed soon after it started. Media presence was strong-but it is not expected that any main stream media will carry the news.
