The last time Bernama’s `news’ that Taib’s offer to step down was to `test the water’ became a reason enough for Taib’s siblings to knock on the doors of Borneo Post-which printed the news. The poor editor was suspended. Compare to that `news’-which was mere speculation and fair comment by the media, the `news’ about the freezing of Taib’s assets by the Swiss’ Anti-Corruption Agency must count as much more humiliating and de-stablising for his government. However the Taib’s proud family members are maintaining a conspicuous `elegant silence’! Why????
Is the old fox running scared? Is he reading that since Bernama print such a unverified news it could herald something more sinister waiting to spring a surprise once Taib’s camp make a false step? Already the late night swearing in as Chief Minister by Taib had already sent tongue swagging about a tension between Putrajay and Taib-with Taib suspecting UMNO’s design to announce its choice as Chief Minister ahead of Taib’s confirmation as CM by the poll. At the time of swearing in Taib just scrapped through a simple majority in State Assembly-with still a big chunk of votes not announced officially by the Election Commission.
If it were indeed a start of something major-what could be up the sleeves of UMNO’s chief Najib? He must take the lesson from his last attempt to receive loudly Taib’s reported wish to step down-only to find Taib refuting the news in front of him and in front of the media within 24 hours. If Najib indeed have something deadly it has to be irreversible this time. And Taib may be refraining any over-reaction to forestall any chink in his armour.
May be something really dramatic will arise in this almost calmed post-election scenario…or is it just on the surface?
Meanwhile Peter Chin of SUPP claim that the MACC’s investigation is meant to clear the Sarawak’s CM-is it a not too sublte way to pressure the MACC to play to its tune? Peter Chin is the 2nd politician from Sarawak to air such sentiment, after Rundi.
