The signs of desperation is clear for all to see: the BN Sarawakian politician by the name `Riot’ (Ricahrd Riot)warned of a riot or blood bath at the Bersih rally -forgetting that there was nothing near to a riot or bloodbath at the last Bersih rally. There are some groups like PERKASA who want to counter the Bersih rally with their own-but Bersih organisers have already welcome them to the rally! Now there is even a death threat against Ambiga sent through SMS to many parties-including Sarawak News. The number is from: +601119732179, received at 9:03:09pm, 22-06-2011. The threat is blatantly racist and abusive. But stripped down to its logic its only defense to the incompetent and unfair Election Commission is simply that the Opposition’s wins now and then prove that the elections were fair. It is like saying that the win against parties with handicaps prove that the handicaps are not there or fair.
Such threats could well be the handiwork of the power that be hiding behind anonymity to stop what citizens can do legally. What that make it seems illegal is simply the police’s or the Ministers’ refusal to give police permit-but they can give it to the much bigger `million youth’ gathering organised by the BN government in Putrajaya! Then there was no issue of police permit, no death threat, no prediction of `blood bath’, no 400+ police reports of lose in business, traffic blocked etc. The hypocrisies are open for all to see! This ruling party is giving themselves a license to freely make unsubstantiated accusations against whatever not organised by them and use these suspicions as their basis to deny the people their basic rights to gather and speak out. Nothing less than being dictatorial if they continue to get away with it!
Let’s all not be deterred by the death threat that come from the dark side. The future does not belong to them.
The arguement behind the deaht threat is simply a rehash of the `ketuanan Melayu’ mentality. Any challenge to the bad governance, corruption of the `Malay’/UMNO government is equated to a challenge to `Malay’/UMNO power. By putting UMNO at such an unchallengeable position it reflect the undemocratic assumption of the ruling party/UMNO now and in the past. Because the argument does not work or is presentable it is only reflected through death threats of this sort. They want people to `understand’ them and back off. Nothing less than a mafia threat.
The Minister Hishamuddin’s offer to `investigate’ is just a possible `good cop, bad cop’ drama. Behind the scene they could be shaking hands and sharing a drink for staging the boring drama of Malaysia under UMNO. Whether it works or not depend on the turn out at the Bersih rally.
