Even though the No.2 of EC Wan Ahmad insisted that the EC won’t invite any internationa observers to Malaysian elections the EC’s no.2 Tan Sri Abdul Aziz announced that they are currently considering to invite international observers to the imminent 13th General Elections! They are looking into the practicalities such as costing issues involved.
Malaysian EC had been invited to be election observers in various countries including the coming Thai general elections. Despite that the EC here suspect that international observers can’t do their job while observing the elections here. EC charged that they tend to use international standards to make their judgement and not based on local election laws. That said it is clear that Malaysian election laws are falling behind the regional standards eg postal ballots are not made available to citizens working overseas as provided by almost all countries in the region to their overseas citizens.
Since the EC seldom act without approval from the BN/UMNO it is equivalent to the BNUMNO making a concession to try to avoid the July 9th Bersih march.
