De-mystifying BERSIH 2.0

1                   BERSIH 2.0 is an independent coalition of non-government organsiations and is unaffiliated to any political party.

BERSIH 2.0 is the name of a group of 62 non-government organisations called the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections.  It is a coalition of like minded civil society organisations unaffiliated to any political party.

BERSIH 2.0 has invited ALL political parties to participate in the walk for democracy on 9 July.  However, BN component parties have rejected the invitation.

Bersih charged that Malaysian elections administered by EC under BN’s tutelage has been grossly unfair-and the outlawing of the election reform group seems to be the best confirmation of  its charge against BN!

BN has been trying to sidestep Bersih’s charges of unfair elections by pounding on possible negative implications from its mass rallies and to project unproven accusations that Bersih harbour agenda to topple the government either through Jasmine revolution or building momentum for Oppositon. However these charges seems to be prejudicial for various reasons:1. Many mammoth rallies around the world started and ended peacefully-why not in Malaysia? In fact thus far the threat of violence can only be discerned from UMNO youth or Perkasa who threaten to hold their own rallies which their leaders reportedly said they cannot guarantee their peaceful behaviour!

No of arrests today stand at 152.

Police said more could e arrested under Emergency Order which provide for detention without trial like ISA. So far 6 PSM leaders had been arrested under EO. There are some SMS `news’ going around this evening that 12 Bersih’s leaders -of its 15 steering committee members, are on hit lisht by police tomorrow!As though in anticipation of the BN’s tactics Bersih’s Ambiga reportedly said that the people will be the torch bearers of the Bersih’s message for free and fair elections-not the steering committee. So: will the police arrest all people who turn up to Bersih rally on July 9th?

To the Bersih organiser: your intention is good but rally may bring bad; did not blame anyone specifically for the bad that come from the rally;

To the government: be just and settle issues through Malay way of consultations. Not mentioned if the police actions have been good under such conditions;
