Sarawak CM Taib Mahmud is building more and more dams to use it to bait energy-intentive FDI. But the people who will be displaced by the planned 12 huge dams will pay the price for such a policy. After Batang Ai, Bakun and Murum the next big one will be Baram. Already in the last trips to Baram we noticed some abandoned long houses eg Long Keseh, where the village chiefs had been bought off to move on to other locations. The whole culture of the Orang Ulu in Sarawak will suffer a fatal body blow. Other countries suffer such huge refugee problems only due to natural calamity, war or nuclear accidents. Sarawak suffer it all because of 1 man’s energy policy-which is mis-guideded from many perspectives. It is up to the voters to decided if they still want the same government to continue to cause havoc in Sarawak in the 13th General Elections!
Do you think Sarawakians need more electricity?
