The Bato bagi’s judgement by the Chief Justice of Federal Court will reverberate in Sarawak’s jungles (if there is any left) for years/decades to come! Put simply the judgement say that once you take the compensation money from the loggers/developers your NCR land is gone! Many questions may arise on whether this implication is known-when in most of the case the agreement of receiving the money is never shown or given a copy by the logger/developer! That aside there is also another way the NCR is swindled: by bribing the `tuai rumah’ (long house chief appointed by the government). The tuai rumah claim to represent the folks in his long house to sign away the NCR lands and take hefty payment for himself! Difficult to prove-but the stories are heard all over Sarawak’s interior. Can corruption that cause the lands to be `sold’ acceptable as `taking the compensation money’ under the Bato Bagi judgement? The following letter is a example of such a case-if the serious allegations are proven, the culprits-those who bribe and bribed, should be taken to court!
Dear Pehin Sri Haji Taib Mahmud,
Sir…I picked up a classic title for this letter while my email writer the retired Cikgu repeatedly opening dictionary to check some of his uncertain words and spellings, because I expect you be aware that it is our rights to call you and hold you accountable for everything are going on among us Orang Asal Sarawak, similarly it is our rights to present you our suggestions and views on policy/s which you write thinking its good or the only option you have.
Since this is not my first and for sure won’t be the last letter to you, I plead you not look at the messenger as itch to you, rather should whisper into your minds that yes we people from the rural areas are not lucky or smarts enough to lead like you but at least we can ask you where we being lead to.
Pehin Seri, this year (2011), more than 1 million of your countryman/Sarawakian are almost coming to 48 years fifty years of what you call independent but we call it 48 years of really dependent and hardship. These 1 million have nothing to show beside labour at their own lands, begging a little commission money from the timber tycoons who manipulated our lands and resources, depending on cheap handout from your e-kasih programmed, depending on minor rural project, head of all, very careless and corrupt ministers in the really means of the words.
I vividly remembered in one of your speech during the celebrations of 28th year in power as the chief minister of Sarawak, speaking at Dewan Suarah Bintulu you said that your vision for Sarawak was for it to become the richest state in Malaysia by the year 2030. Well, I am sure about that, but definately I don’t dare to invest my bet and live in your vision, because being the Tua Kampong for almost 3 decades, I know you and your unaccomplished visions for Sarawak except for the million dollars vision on your business empire.
As my pride for my own people of Baram growing older to this day while being the Tua Kampung of Long Kavuk for almost three decades, I found it very embarrassing and hilarious and not knowing whether I should laugh or cry for some people among us in Baram are very much duplicating your “money swindling practices”, scam that was engineered by you, therefore the shameless group of people such as Penghulu Lenjau Kuleh and his brother in-law Oyong Tom (Tom Wan) from Long Banyok, Paul Kalang (Muing Kalang Lewen) and Marcus Laing from Long Ikang and Andrew Belulok from Long Kiput (Kuala Tutoh). They (the above mentioned names) got the guts so secretly sold off their respective Kampung NCR Lands to your sister, during their final secret meeting at “bilik Penghulu Lenjau Kuleh” in Long Banyok in last June.
Pehin Sri Haji Taib, again…I am not sure whether I should keep silent or let this sad story “blown in the winds”or to let the world know that our own leaders, Temengong, Pemancar, Penghulu and our only hopes to be our saviours, but they seems and incapable of not only doing but even thinking of anything besides waiting the opportunities of making monies for themselves from the lands and timbers belong to the Kampung people, but the five (5) names thieves, conmen willing to trade their ancestral lands that are outside of perimeter survey/Ribunan Hijau-IB Plantation, the lands shared by the Kampung and let it go by personal greed for auction. They received the amounts about RM1.5 million from your sister’s company sometimes in between July 22nd – 24th this year in Miri Sarawak, and later distributed it among themselves and banked into their personal banking account, without the knowledge of the Kampung people;
- Penghulu Lenjau Kuleh & Tom Wan – RM300,000.00 plus, plus
- Paul Kalang Lewen & Marcus Laing – RM300,000.00 plus, plus
- Andrew Belulok – RM300,000.00 plus, plus
Pehin Sri Haji Taib, I am not ashamed to tell you that I am sad, I am scared and I am worry because this disease/epidemic you started is spreading rapidly among the Orang Ulu people, the race was once know as people of grace, people who are rich in our cultures, our “ngajat” and “sape”. Remember that classic idiom “Monkey See Monkey Do”? That’s how we see it, because you are the father monkey and teaching the apprentice monkeys who thinks swindling monies is norms.
Pehin Sri, to be honest, I am not sure whether the people of the three long houses (Long Banyo, Long Ikang and Kuala Tutoh) knew anything about this secretive deal. I cannot go further than what I’ve mentioned and leave it to The Almighty God to judge.
Pehin Sri Haji Taib, I guess what you should do is coming out as humble man and format all spywares which are installed in your genes to render you hopeless and fruitless. You must come up with a shrewd plan for the 1 million plus Sarawakian currently living and the generations to come. My simple & humble suggestion is that we Sarawakian need to mull and write a new world order which is going to be the blueprint for the development and future of the Sarawak and the land of Hornbill.
Keep in mind that your straight forward duty should be on preserving three very vulnerable things; honor the 18 Points, honor NCR land and the Sarawak natural resources are belong to Sarawakian.
Pehin Sri Haji Taib and all you Ministers and Yang Berhormat, Please remember that you suppose be there because of our votes, remember that you should be representing us, remember that logical you’ll not be Chief Minister, Minister or Yang Berhomat forever, because one of these days you’ll be ordinary citizen as anyone of us.
Pehin Sri….to conclude my letter to you, you cannot be hold accountable and responsible for our suffering in the Ulu, our lands are being stolen and sole since we have you, remember that we are suffering in a unspeakable level and last remember that we have none else but you. There are many other things you can do for the common good but which I am not in a position to enumerate, a simple, old fashion Tua Kampung of Long Kavuk that I am. But I am very confident that with the above initial steps, you’ll be leading the country in the right direction.
Salam Hormat dari Orang Asal Sarawak
